The research is clear, caring for your mental health is a vital part of successfully recovering from injury. This four week course and supportive community is designed to fill this gap for adults who are in the midst of recovering from an ACL injury so that you can return to the things you love! Whether you are a competitive or casual athlete or just tore you ACL or are years out from your injury this course is for you.
We will cover:
The impact of the injury itself including loss of routine, coping mechanisms, community, perceived control, and identity
Navigating the ups and downs of physical recovery including loss of trust in your body and choices, uncertainty and potentially unrealistic expectations about the recovery process, and struggles to stay motivated throughout the entirety of the recovery
Navigating the fears and potential disappointments of returning to your athletic endeavors including fear of re-injury, reimagining your aspirations, and navigating differences in your physical capabilities
All along the way you will be joined by fellow athletes who get what you are going through, providing a vital sense of community and support during what can be a very isolating time.
Finally, we will be joined for one session by the wonderful Shae Holmes, professional soccer player for the Seattle Reign who has recovered from three ACL tears. This is a chance to ask all of those burning questions and find further comrade and inspiration!
As someone who tore their ACL as an adult and is still in the midst of a complicated recovery, I get it. Reflecting on my own experience and delving into the academic research on this topic to create this course has been incredibly impactful for me in my own ACL journey and I can’t wait to share it with you!
*Please note that although Christy is a licensed mental health counselor this is not a therapy group and is not covered by medical insurance in any way - Please reach out to us if you are interested in mental health counseling for your injury*
